Say nope to soap

Soap: The key to cleansing basics, right?  Wrong.  Your body has a highly evolved process, and you need to get out of its way. Seriously, just say nope to soap, honey bun! Why? Any soap (including natural soap) is bad for your bits, girlfriend. Say what? We thought you might say that. Here’s why: The vagina is a self-cleaning marvel. She’s fully loaded with all the cleansing bells (secretions) and whistles (discharge) you could ever need. These liquids flush your body of bacteria/dead cells that can build up and cause infection.  And while you do need to rinse your cooch daily to stay clean and healthy, warm water is all you need to get perfectly clean.

Doesn’t sound like enough to get you “squeaky” clean, does it? Here’s the thing, when you’re that squeaky kind of clean, even the good stuff has been stripped away and that’s no bueno for your body’s natural functions. Anything that lathers, including soap, shampoo, and even toothpaste! is designed and marketed to fool you into believing that you need that  “squeaky” clean feeling. You don’t. Especially not down there. The vagina naturally produces cleansers that are super advanced and have a delicate pH balance that is essential to their function. Washing them away can leave your vulva vulnerable.

The fact is, soap is not as smart as your body. So while you may feel really clean after sudsing up, your defenseless vagina struggles to rebalance itself by overproducing secretions and discharge. This can result in itchiness, general discomfort and even a not-so-yummy odour lurking between your legs. If you’re not quite convinced, read up on what medical research is saying or let some awesome nurses tell it like it is.

We get it. Mentally, it can be hard to transition away from soap to just water. We’ve heard this a lot but trust us when we say it’s worth it. Freshbox was designed to support you in this process.  Start a new  cleansing ritual by simply rinsing with warm water in the shower, and mist yourself after and throughout the day.  Alongside your body’s natural cleansers, our components, like high grade organic coconut oil and soothing witch hazel, will gently assist your body back into  balance.

If pain, odour or discomfort persist beyond ditching the lather, check in with a doctor.  Your vagina’s healthy state should feel good. Keep us posted! We really do  want to talk about your new showers… and your lady flower….or vagina power… “Stop rhyming” you say?  Nah, never!
